PopKey will be an Animated GIF Keyboard for iPhone on iOS 8

Move aside, Yo and Emoj.li. iOS 8 will soon allow for users to communicate with others in ways not often considered before, thanks to third-party keyboard support for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. One of the first entrants in the space will be PopKey, a new project by Ottawa-based WorkshopX that will feature an embedded search widget for browsing and finding animated GIFs to send through apps like Messages or Mail.  Continue reading

Apple confirms NFC is limited to Apple Pay on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus

While the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus feature an NFC chip under the hood, an Apple spokesperson has confirmed to Cult of Mac that the technology will be limited to powering the Apple Pay mobile payments platform. The technology will not be accessible by developers for third-party apps, and the spokesperson declined to comment on other potential uses of the antenna in the future.  Continue reading

'AppBuyer' malware for iOS discovered, affects jailbroken devices

Palo Alto Networks has found and analyzed a new malware for iOS called “AppBuyer” that affects jailbroken iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices. The malware is designed to steal a user’s Apple ID username and password and upload the information to the attacker’s server, at which point he can download apps from the App Store from that account.  Continue reading

Report claims iPhone 6 GPU marginally outperforms iPhone 5s in new benchmark

When the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were unveiled at the Flint Center last week, Apple marketing chief Phil Schiller touted that the smartphones have an all-new A8 chip with an M8 coprocessor that provide up to 25% faster CPU performance and up to 50% faster GPU performance than the A7 chip and M7 coprocessor on the iPhone 5s.  Continue reading
