The European Commission on Tuesday announced that it has reached the “preliminary view” that a corporate tax deal granted to Apple in Ireland constitutes illegal state aid. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on Tuesday granted Apple with a patent related to a glasses-free interactive holographic display device that utilizes laser beams, micro lenses and sensors to show holographic images of objects. Samsung is reportedly gearing up to provide Apple with 9.7-inch and 12.9-inch panels for the upcoming iPad Air 2 and so-called “iPad Pro” respectively. According to Taiwanese blog DigiTimes, citing a Korea-based news source, Samsung will begin manufacturing the panels in the coming months ahead of making shipments before the end of 2014. Following the news that Apple has gained regulatory approval on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in China, the Cupertino-based company announced on Tuesday that the two smartphones will launch in the world’s most populous country on Friday, October 17. Earlier this year, Steven Lamar, a pioneer of Beats headphones in 2006, filed a complaint against Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine that claimed he was owed royalties on certain models of headphones that the celebrity-endorsed brand sells.
