Apple Sued Over Its Warranty Policies In Belgium
Apple is in trouble again over warrant policy for its products in Belgium. According to the EU law, Apple should ideally be offering customers a two-year warranty for its products, which includes its iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and iPod. However, Apple offers warranty only for a year and offers AppleCare Protection Plan or AppleCare+ to customers who want coverage beyond one year. Continue reading

We’re Selling Ourselves Out and Developers Short with Free Apps
I buy a lot of apps. Yeah I have a lot of apps in general (almost 920 last check of iTunes), and a lot of them are free. Some were just free and a smaller portion were from review codes by app developers, but a lot, I bought. And while we all like free apps, when an app is free to download and use, there is always a cost. Nothing is ever completely free, someone has to get paid. However app developers are under two conflicting pressures: people wanting free apps and developers wanting to earn a living. Continue reading

Tap To Unlock Your Unlock iPhone With tapUnlock [Jailbreak Tweak]
‘Slide to unlock’ has been one of the iconic features of Apple’s iPhone. We can still remember Steve Jobs describing how the iPhone can be unlocked when he unveiled it in January 2007: "To unlock the phone, I just take my finger and slide it across. Wanna see that again? We wanted something you couldn't do by accident in your pocket. Just slide it across – BOOM." Continue reading

Samsung Second Only to IBM in Number of Patents Granted in 2012; Apple Ranked 22nd
In the tech world we know that patents rule. Patents are concrete evidence of your innovations as well as the strength of your R&D program. Apple did pretty well in the patent race in 2012 with 1,135 patents awarded, up 68% from 2011. They can’t hold a candle to Samsung though. Second only to IBM with 5081 patents awarded last year. iPads Outsold Surface RT Tablets 20 to 1 in Q4 2012
Microsoft needed a blockbuster hit with the Surface Tablet RT. Sad to say though, time and again sales estimates for the laplet (tab-book?) have been pushed down and down and down. Analysts first lowered Q4 2012 sales estimates to just 2 million, today, 1 million. To put that in perspective, Apple sold 20 iPads for each Surface Tablet. Continue reading

PureShot Let’s You Shoot and Save Uncompressed TIFF Images on Your iPhone

PureShot Let’s You Shoot and Save Uncompressed TIFF Images on Your iPhone
Although I have two point-n-shoots and a DSLR handy for taking pictures, it’s my iPhone 5 that generally gets the most use. Why? Because I have it with me almost all the time too. Not to mention I can shoot, edit (sometimes), and share a photo from my iPhone much, much faster than I ever could with my other cameras (import into a device, check, post, etc). Still, I prefer to shoot in RAW or have my pictures compresses as little as possible when I have the option. Less compression equals more flexibility editing. If there is more of the original photo left for me to work with I can push the boundaries of the image much better. Alas, that function isn’t in most iPhone apps. Until now. PureShot lets you save an uncompressed dRAW (aka TIFF) image. Results? Well, not what you might expect. Continue reading
