Fred Wilson of New York's Union Square Ventures, one of the top and respected venture capitalist kicked off TechCrunch Disrupt conference in New York yesterday with an interview with Michael Arrington. They discussed a range of interesting topics but when Arrington asked him to predict the top three companies by 2020, Wilson predicted that the top three companies would be Facebook, Google “and one that we haven’t heard of.”  Continue reading

Hacker claims Siri bypasses passcode to allow access to iOS 7 contacts

Egyptian neurosurgeon and part-time iPhone baseband hacker Sherif Hashim appears to demonstrate a privacy failure in iOS 7 that allows a user to access the contact list on an iPhone even when the phone is locked. The trick takes advantage of a glitch in Siri that occurs when the voice assistant is available on the lock screen of the device. Continue reading

Apple working on a fix for unencrypted email attachments in iOS 7

NESO Security Labs researcher Andreas Kurtz recently reported on a security flaw in iOS 7 that resulted in email attachments being stored without encryption, despite Apple’s claims that it does encrypt this data. According to a follow-up report by iMore, Apple is aware of this encryption issue and is working on a fix. Continue reading

Tipster admits Secret post about sensor-filled EarPods was a fabrication

The source was a post on Secret, a social network that allows people to post information anonymously, by someone claiming to be an ex-Apple employee. Apple-Samsung Jury recalculates damages, but final amount of $119 million remains unchanged

The jury in the second round of the Apple-Samsung trial reached a unanimous verdict last week, awarding Apple $119.6 million in damages.
