Apple In Talks To Acquire Social Commerce Site – The Fancy
Business Insider reports that Apple is in talks to buy social commerce site The Fancy, in an attempt to enter the e-commerce market on a much larger scale, distributing not just software and gadgets, but a wide array of products. The site calls itself “part blog, part magazine and part bookmarking tool,” and is very similar to Pinterest with an increased focus on buying stuff, taking a 10 percent cut for all transactions. It is backed by cofounders of Facebook, Twitter and other investment firms including Andreessen Horowitz. Continue reading

Steve Jobs Was “Very Receptive” To The Idea Of 7-Inch iPad
Whenever there have been rumors of iPad mini, there was one thing that always appeared to stand in the way of such a device becoming a reality - Steve Jobs’ take on 7″ tablets. During a quarterly earnings call back in 2010, Jobs said that a 7″ tablet is too small to deliver a satisfactory user experience. An email thread between Apple execs revealed in the Apple-Samsung trial may offer an explanation to Apple’s apparent change of stand. In the thread, Apple’s VP of Internet Software and Services, Eddy Cue, noted that Jobs seemed receptive to the idea of a 7″ iPad in 2011.  Continue reading

To back up its argument of design inspiration being fairly common in the portable device industry, Samsung highlighted an email conversation between Steve Jobs and Tony Fadell, which talks about a 2005 Samsung phone dubbed “fashionphone,” and how certain design concepts of the device could be used in an iPod style phone. Apple seriously considered an iPod style design for its phone with the clickwheel doubling up as a dial pad, as revealed in multiple patent filings as well as Steve Jobs’ 2007 iPhone keynote.
