It has been rumored over the past several months that Apple will make improvements to the Touch ID fingerprint scanner found on the iPhone 5s, in addition to expanding the security feature to a wider range of iOS devices. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on Thursday published an Apple patent application for OLED displays with “variable optical path length,” confirming the iPhone maker’s continued interest in the next-generation display technology.
