Apple patent filing hints at improved Touch ID on future iPhones, iPads

It has been rumored over the past several months that Apple will make improvements to the Touch ID fingerprint scanner found on the iPhone 5s, in addition to expanding the security feature to a wider range of iOS devices. Apple patent filing reveals its continued interest in AMOLED displays

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on Thursday published an Apple patent application for OLED displays with “variable optical path length,” confirming the iPhone maker’s continued interest in the next-generation display technology. Apple has at least three other OLED-related inventions credited to its name through the USPTO.  Continue reading

Swiss watchmaker Swatch denies involvement with Apple on iWatch

Swiss watchmaker Swatch Group has denied a media report from last night that claimed it was working with Apple on the iWatch, with a company spokesperson stating that its only relationship with mobile phone makers is to provide integrated circuits and other electrical components.  Continue reading

When Apple unveiled Touch ID, they kept it primarily close to the vest, using it for security on the device, and to make purchases through Apple’s digital services. With the unveiling of iOS 8, though, the company made it known they’d be opening it up to third-party developers.
