Google expected to join health platform race with Google Fit

The latest trend among major tech corporations appears to be centered upon health and fitness platforms. Samsung recently held a digital health event in San Francisco to talk about its health-oriented devices, followed by Apple’s unveiling of its new Health app and HealthKit platform at the WWDC keynote last week. Apple opens first retail store in Japan since 2006

Yesterday we told you about the first internal memo that Apple retail chief Angela Ahrendts sent to employees, in which she detailed an upcoming visit to Japan to visit the first Apple Store opening in the country since 2006. That retail store is located in the Omotesando region, and it opened this morning in the Japanese capital of Tokyo. As expected, Ahrendts was on hand for the grand opening.  Continue reading

Apple launches free Exchange program for 5W European USB Power Adapter

Apple has just announced an exchange program for the 5W European USB Power Adapter, as they’ve found that in some rare cases they may overheat and pose safety risk. The affected power adapters came with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S models shipped from October 2009 to September 2012, and was also sold as a standalone accessory. Continue reading

Samsung announces the Galaxy Tab S, its latest iPad rival

Samsung introduced its brand new Galaxy Tab S tablet at a media event in New York City this afternoon, the South Korean electronic’s makers latest attempt at taking the iPad head on. The Galaxy Tab S is thinner and lighter than previous tablets in the lineup, with a Super AMOLED display that boasts a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels. The tablet will be available next month in both 8.4-inch ($399) and 10.5-inch ($499) sizes.  Continue reading

Fortune has published an interesting profile on Tony Faddell, who is often referred to as the “godfather of the iPod” because of his work towards designing the concept and initial design of the iconic portable media player. In the feature length article, Faddell, who now works at the Nest Labs company he founded, claimed that he would have loved to show his Nest smart thermostat to the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.  Continue reading

Apple retail chief Angela Ahrendts issues first memo to retail employees

Apple Senior Vice President of Retail and Online Stores Andrea Ahrendts has issued her first internal memo to retail employees, just six weeks after leaving her post as chief executive of the Burberry luxury fashion brand. The memo, which was obtained by the well-connected blogger Mark Gurman, is a positive one in which Ahrendts expresses her appreciation for the warm welcome at Apple at both the corporate and retail store level.  Continue reading
