Late last year, Apple suffered a major setback in the form of a $368.2 million patent lawsuit loss, where the company was found guilty of infringing VirnetX’s VPN related patents in its implementation of FaceTime. According to Ars Technica, Apple has made changes to the FaceTime backend architecture to workaround VirnetX’s patents, which have caused a drop in the quality of video calls made through the service.
