Apple knows this, which is why they do things like ask operators to buy a certain amount of iPhones (millions) or guarantee that other phones don’t get more favorable subsidies. This has the European Union concerned according to the Financial Times, who says that questionnaires are being sent to various operators to find out what kind of business deals they do with Apple.
