Apple Successfully Prevents Xiaomi from Registering 'Mi Pad' Trademark in the EU

A couple of years ago, Xiaomi filed an application with the EU Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) to register the “Mi Pad” moniker. However, Apple found that the name of the tablet was eerily similar to its own “iPad” and hence decided to file a complaint with the local authorities. The EU General Court has now ruled that Xiaomi will not be awarded the trademark given the visual and phonetic similarities between the two names. Continue reading
